Best Corded Circular Saw

There are pros and cons you need to weigh in choosing this tool type. One major advantage of this type is that it has superior cutting power compared to cordless ones.

Most corded circ saws have around 7.25-inch blades while cordless ones have a 6.5-inch blade. Their larger blades provide more power and speed which gives them that cutting edge.

Another advantage would be no worries about buying batteries. Even though it has limited portability, still getting a longer power cord or extension wire can increase its range. Moreover, these types are priced at half compared to their cordless counterparts.

Now, let’s go over on how to choose the best-corded circular saw in the market.

KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR The Best Corded Circular Saw

1. Circular Saw Blades

The power tool’s saw blade is a determining factor for its performance. Choose and buy a unit whose blade fits the task you mostly do. Below are the common saw blade mostly used by people.

  • High-speed steel blades: This is harder than steel which stays sharp for a longer time.
  • Carbide-tipped blades: Similar to the first type but with carbide tips so it’ll stay sharper for a much longer time.
  • Tile-cutting blades:
It has a diamond tip that is designed to cut effectively through tiles.
  • Masonry blades: It has an abrasive edge fit for cutting bricks and other masonry materials.

2. Wattage

This is a good measure of power. Typically, corded circular saws have a 2400 watts surge power and an operating wattage of 1200 watts.

3. Power Sources

  • Corded: The portability is dependent on the power cord length. There’s no power limit and it can work for long hours.
  • Cordless: Very portable but the main setback is its limited power which is dependent on the battery’s capacity.

4. RPM Speed

A typical 7.25” diameter saw tool has an average rpm of 5,800. Most power tools have their blades mounted directly to the motor shaft. In contrast, worm drive circular saws have a general speed of 4000 to 5000 rpm.

5. Blade Capacity

This refers to the maximum cutting depth of the circular saw unit. A wider blade diameter means higher blade capacity. If you want a light and easy to use saw tool, better choose a unit with smaller blade capacity. A blade capacity of 6 inches and above can cut through a 2-inch width wood in a single pass.

6. Electric Brakes

This feature is good for work convenience and safety purposes for it stops blade rotation in a short span of time. It works by reversing electricity flow inside the motor and stops the blade for approximately 2 seconds.

7. Laser Guide

An added feature in order to improve cutting accuracy by following a laser guide directed on the stock.

8. Bevel Stops

Preset divisions of the bevel for easy angle cut adjustments.

9. Bevel Capacity

It tells the maximum slope cut a circular saw tool can achieve.

10. Spindle or Shaft Locks

A safety feature used when changing saw blades. It ensures that the shaft and blade are in a fixed position while removing and installing a new blade.

Sidewinder, Left Blade

This is the perfect solution for those looking for a left blade saw. I like this tool for it has a solid base and great cutting action. It uses a narrow kerf blade for reduced wood waste and it tracks exactly at the edge. The best feature for this is its left blade for it gives a better cut line of sight. It’s really a good thing the parts and plate are made from magnesium or else this would have been heavier.

So far, no serious problems are encountered with this tool.

Lightweight

This tool has a smaller size and lightweight which is friendly for smaller hands and women. External casing and parts are made from hard plastic which still makes it durable. I like this tool for despite its smaller size, it can still take on 2x4s effectively at a slower rate. It’s amazing this one comes with a rip fence and its narrow sled width for easier cutting.

However, the rip fence seems to be breakable and misaligns whenever tightened.

I like its motor for there’s less maintenance but still delivers enough power for the job. Guaranteed smooth cutting action and the blade guard runs smoothly as well. This is a great tool for your home and repairs.

It’s not really a bad thing but for some delicate works, its weight seems to be heavy compared to counterparts made from magnesium.

FEATURES

  • Motor: 4 Amp

  • RPM: 3,500

  • Blade: 24T for wood, 44T HSS for aluminum & PVC, grit diamond blade for ceramic tile and cement board

  • Cutting depth: >1”, adjustable cut depth

  • Laser guide: Yes

  • Dust Blower: Yes

pros cons
• Compact and strong motor • The extra effort you’ll exert to give a good cutting action
• Lightweight and easy to maneuver ?
• Good quality for an affordable good price ?

The best feature I like about this tool is its VersaCut. The heavy and bulky head of the saw gives it extra power to give effective and straight cutting action. Another feature I like from this tool is its adjustable cutting depth. Setting it is easy and the blade cuts through the desired depth. When doing repairs on the walls and edges, this one fits best. The last feature I like is its three different blades which give you the option to work on woods, aluminum or ceramic surfaces.

It’s not really a bad thing but the effectivity of the VersaCut also depends on how much force you exert in pushing it down while cutting.

  • Motor: 15Amp

  • RPM: 4,500

  • Blade: 7-1/4”

  • Cutting depth: 2-3/8” @90°

  • Weight: 13.2 lbs

  • Laser guide: No

  • Dust blower: No

pros cons
• Lightweight and durable • Increased cutting depth
• Less maintenance ?
• Effective torque and great quality ?

The thing I like most about this tool – it’s lightweight and well-balanced. Its magnesium parts contributed to why it’s pretty light compared to regular ones. It has longer levers which give more advantage for performance. The unique thing about this tool is its “hypoid” gears that are present to the worm-drive mechanism. The unique shape of the gear teeth gives that extra torque action. This mechanism also requires less lube for operation.

Perhaps, the best thing to recommend is to increase the cutting depth of the tool similar to its cordless models.

  • Cutting depth: 2-3/8” @90°

  • Bevel: 0-45°

pros cons
• Strong motor and powerful cuts • Magnesium plate seems to bend a bit when too much pressure is exerted
• Precise cutting with a clear line of sight ?
• Low maintenance ?

Amazon’s Choice

I like this tool for it’s a perfect partner for any carpentry or framework installations. It works better than a standard sidewinder DeWalt circ saw. It operates the same way as Mag77 but much lighter. Plus, the bevel adjustments is smoother. All you need to do to keep it functional for a long time, keep it lubricated before using.

Most issues are on the magnesium plate for it seems to bend when great pressure is exerted.
